Welcome to EYFS - Mrs Page's Class
Spring 2018
We have been learning about the coldest places on Earth - the Polar regions. We have searched for the animals that live there and found out about the Emperor penguins who live at the South Pole.
Autumn 2017
We enjoyed reading the story of The Little Red Hen. We made some bread of our own. We mixed the flour and yeast, then we kneaded it before shaping into bread rolls. After it was cooked, we took it home to eat.
Our class have all settled really well into the first few weeks of school and all the children are enjoying their learning inside and outside.
We all enjoyed looking for the Gruffalo on our trip to Beaumanor Hall. We made musical instruments, followed a trail of footprints through the woods and made dens to hide in. We thought we could see his orange eyes through the trees but he was very shy and didn't come out.
World Book Day
Thank you Year 2LM for coming to read with us today! We enjoyed listening to you read your books!

Chinese New Year
We celebrated the Year of the Rooster with a Dragon Dance. We made lucky money wallets and lanterns.
Cold Weather
We enjoyed our topic and found out about cold places. We explored ice melting and frosty weather conditions.
Autumn Leaves
We have been exploring the Autumn leaves outside and watching them change colour as they fall off the trees.
Some children made an enormous pile of leaves which they turned into a big birthday cake! Others spent time making a nest for the birds in the branches.

We Love Cooking!
We made bread for the Little Red Hen and spotty cakes and biscuits for Children in Need!
The dough was sticky and we had to knead it before we shaped the bread.
We rolled the icing and then cut out circles to put on top of the buns and biscuits.
Thank you for buying all of our spotty cakes!

2015-16
Miss Bridge's class made Easter bonnets for an Easter parade.
To Infinity and the......trees!
All the children were really excited to send their letter off to space today. We wrote the letter as a class and included a QR code for the aliens to read in case they didn't understand our English. Miss Bridge fetched the balloons at lunchtime and we tied the letter to the balloons. Lewis and Amileigh were chosen to be the 'balloon releasers' and after we counted down from the 10 the letter was released. Unfortunately the balloons did initially get stuck in the trees but I am sure the aliens will be able to untangle them and retrieve the letter. We are hoping that they will come back to our playground and take our box of writing to Bob, the Man on the Moon and share the fantastic stories, posters and speech bubbles the children have written with Bob. Thank you to the parents for coming and joining in with our letter release.
Aliens have landed!
We've been reading a story called Man on the Moon (a day in the life of Bob) and the children were all really excited to hear that over the weekend Bob had sent some aliens from the Moon to leave some special messages for the children. The aliens were caught on our CCTV landing in the playground and left special alien messages in the form of QR codes which the children had to scan with the school iPads and follow the trail. At the end of the trail there was a special box that had been sent from Bob with a letter for the children. His rocket to bring him back to Earth has broken down and whilst he fixes it he needs the children to write him some Space adventure stories to keep him from getting bored. As you can see from the pictures we all had a super time on our very own space mission and the children can't wait to start writing to Bob.
Our mission to the Moon.
As part of our space topic we decided we would like to blast off in a rocket to the Moon. After a very shaky start we were racing through space and landed with a bump on the Moon. We investigated the Moon's different sized craters and brought some moon sand back to help with our ongoing investigations. Watch this space for more tales from our exciting adventure to the Moon!
Dance with Heathfield Sports Leaders
Our class was really lucky to have the Sports Leaders from Heathfield Academy come in to school and lead a dance lesson for us. They taught us how to respond to different types of music, how to move our bodies to the music and how to develop our spatial awareness. We really enjoyed having them in to school and wish them the best for their Sports Leaders course.
Chinese New Year 2016
The children from both Foundation classes had a fantastic time learning all about Chinese New Year. We learnt about how Chinese people celebrate the new year- making lucky dumplings, setting off fireworks and lanterns and having special Chinese dragon and lion dances. As part of our learning we were able to make Moon Cakes, a cake that Chinese people make and give to their friends, which were very yummy, we made a Foundation class dragon, wrote some super sentence which we have made into a book, independently cut out the shapes to assembly a monkey as it is the Year of the Monkey and have a go at writing Chinese numbers. We have had so much fun learning about Chinese New Year!
Green Screening
Miss Bridge has been teaching us how to use an app called Green Screen by Do Ink. We took a picture of each other standing in front of a green screen (we used a green blanket) and then used the app to super impose ourselves onto the background we had already chosen. The pictures look really cool and we have enjoyed looking at them. Some parents have even asked if they can come in and use this technology!
We are going to use the pictures to write captions and then we are going to write stories about ourselves. Watch this space!

Winter
Our topic so far this term is Winter. We've talked about what Winter is, which months fall into the Winter season and the exciting things we can do in Winter. The children created a whole class thought bubble with words that they thought of about Winter. We have also done some Winter science activities- how do animals stay warm in Winter? And created some fantastic Winter inspired Art pictures which you can see are hanging up in our cloakroom. Take a look at the pictures below to see the different ways we have been learning and exploring Winter.
Parent Readers
Mr Aves, better known as Georgia's Daddy, is volunteering in our classroom every Tuesday. He is reading different stories to us and we really look forward to it each week. Thanks so much Mr Aves!
Why do we come to school?
I asked the children the questions "why do we come to school?". The children came up with some fantastic answers such as to learn to read and write, to do our numbers, because we are children and that's what we have to do, learning is important, we learn how to be kind at school and we do special things at school. We had a really good discussion about this and the children began to understand that although we do come to school to learn Maths, Literacy and Phonics, we also learn other things such as being kind, working as a team, persevering when something is hard, concentrating, about the world and many many more. It was a really interesting conversation with the class and to hear their ideas and thoughts.
Making Fruity Snowmen
We had so much fun making a healthy winter snack in class today. We learnt all about the importance of having clean hands, wearing aprons and having our hair tied back and then Miss Bridge showed us how to safely use a knife to cut up the fruit. We each had a turn at using the knife safely (with supervision) and we used bananas, strawberries, raisins and grapes. They looked really good and tasted yummy!
A Warm and Fuzzy Christmas!
The children all performed our Christmas Nativity fantastically. You should all be very proud parents of each and everyone of them. They all spoke and sang clearly and looked lovely in their costumes. Thank you to all who came and watched and supported the children.

The children have settled in to our class very well. They are enjoying their days at school engaging in activities such as Disco Dough, Funky Fingers and Phonics. We are in the middle of completing our baseline assessments so that we can plan the teaching for the rest of the year.
Diwali- 11th November 2015
We explored how Sikhs celebrated Diwali with our very own Diwali day. Mr Poli and Miss Gill spent a long time planning and preparing different activities for us so that we could find out all about Diwali and as you can see from the pictures we really enjoyed it!
PE with Mr Moon.
This term Mr Moon has been teaching the Foundation children how to skip and negotiate space. There is actually quite a lot of skill involved in learning how to skip and it is very important that the children learn how to use space effectively and safely. As you can see from the pictures below the children are really enjoying their PE lessons.
Making Music.
We really enjoyed getting the different instruments out and exploring how to make different sounds. If we practice hard enough we may even be able to form a band!
Our faces.
The children have been using the interactive whiteboard (IWB) to draw their faces. It was quite hard work initially as a lot of the children had never used an IWB before but as you can see I think they have done really well to recreate themselves.
Funky Fingers
In Foundation we are beginning a programme called Funky Fingers. The idea of Funky Fingers is to build up muscle strength and develop the fine motor skills in order to improve handwriting, pencil grip and pencil control. The children work in small groups on a 3 minute task, 3 times a week, whilst listening to the song Happy by Pharrell Williams. The children have until the end of the song to complete their given task and will rotate throughout the 3 tasks during the week. Below are some pictures of the children engaging in Funky Fingers.
Our first few days at Townlands
Gruffalo Day at Beaumanor Hall
The children really enjoyed their trip to Beaumanor Hall for our Gruffalo day. They were able to build dens, go on a Gruffalo hunt, make music, create animal prints, have a picnic, write letters and much more. It was a very hot day but the children and staff really enjoyed themselves as you can see from the pictures below.
Sports Day
Healthy Schools Week Fruit Tasting
As part of our Healthy Schools Week we were able to try lots of exotic fruits we had not tried before. We tasted Rambutan, Physalis, Grapefruit, Mango and lots more. Some of them we really enjoyed and as you can see from the pictures some of them we did not like. We really enjoyed getting to taste the fruits and the Mango came out on top as the class favourite.
Rabbit and Chick visits.
We were very lucky to have Mrs Moore and Odie the rabbit in school and Mrs Rusch with some eggs waiting to hatch. We were able to ask Mrs Moore lots of questions about Odie and how to look after a rabbit. It was very interesting and we think Odie enjoyed his trip into school.
It was interesting getting to watch the eggs hatching into chicks. We were expecting the chicks to be fluffy and yellow but they were brown, black and yellow. We were able to ask Mrs Rusch lots of questions about chicks and eggs and we were able to see how you look after eggs in an incubator and chicks when they are only a few days old.
Thank You Mrs Moore and Mrs Rusch for giving us these fantastic experiences.

Red Nose Day 2015 Dance-athon with Mrs Sweeney Essex
The video clip below is our entry for the Thomas and Friends competition. Unfortunately we did not win the competition but we enjoyed singing the song and learning how to sign.
The pictures below show the children celebrating Chinese New Year in different ways. We had great fun in the Chinese role play corner, matching words and pictures in the water, drawing outside with chalk, learning how to use chopsticks, making New Years cards and chinese lanterns. We learnt a song in Chinese and sung it to the rest of the school during hymn practice. Kung Hei Fat Choi to you all!
The pictures below were taken during our Loros Sport Sponsored event. As you can see we had a great time and used lots of skills to move up and down the ladders. Thank you to everyone who sponsored us to take part in this event!
Funky Fingers
In Foundation we are just beginning a new programme called Funky Fingers. PE
During PE this term we have been focussing on getting dressed and undressed, balancing, travelling in different directions and in different ways such as running, walking, skipping, shuffling and hopping, and throwing and catching beanbags. There has been significant improvement throughout the class in all of these elements and we will be focussing on developing these further throughout the rest of the term. Below are a few pictures of children in their PE lessons as well as a few pictures from Kimbles, a music and movement classed taught by an outside coach called Rose.
Below are a few pictures of the children dressed up in their Dahlicious Dress Up day costumes. Thanks to everyone who took part and donated a pound. You all looked fantastic!
Please find below a few pictures from the children's first few days at school.
