ART DAY 2026
On the 21st May, each child at Townlands took part in Art Day. Each year group learnt about a famous artist, their unique style, and even applied those skills to their own incredible creations.
EYFS - Yayoi Kusama
EYFS learnt about Kusama and her dotty style. They recreated her works on satsumas and sunflowers.
Y1 - Alma Thomas
Y1 learnt about Alma and how she painted using small blocks of colour to create a mosaic style, and recreated one of her paintings.
Y2 - Frida Kahlo
Y2 learnt about Frida and her many self-portraits. They all made their own, showing what was important to each of them.
Y3 - Vincent van Gogh
Y3 learnt all about van Gogh and his creative style which would show movement. They recreated his famous Starry Night.
Y4 - Paul Klee
Y4 studied Paul Klee and how he used geometric shapes to make images. They then practiced colour mixing to create their own skylines.
Y5 - Claude Monet
Y5 explored Monet's impressionist style which aims to capture a feeling of a location. They used this to influence their own pond scenes.
Y5/6 - Andy Warhol
Year 5/6 learnt about Andy Warhol and the 'pop art' style that he pioneered. They made creations of their own likeness in his style.
Y6 - Banksy
Y6 explored the works of the mysterious Banksy and how his art has deep meaning. They used stencils to make their own images designed to send an important message.
Art Day 2026
We have been involved with the Earl Shilton in Bloom project.
The theme this year is 'roses' and our art work will be on display in Earl Shilton.
Following the success of our school in Earl Shilton Library's Summer Reading Challenge, some of our children worked collaboratively with the library on a new community project. Through creative sessions, the children gathered ideas to inform the design of a mosaic and sculpture based upon reading and the library, nature and Earl Shilton. Once created by an artist, the final artwork will be installed at the entrance to the library to be enjoyed by everyone.
Our pupils shone in the De Montfort Rotary Club Young Artist competition.
The three pictures below all won a certificate and prize.
Easter Bonnet Parade
This year’s Easter bonnets were a wonderful highlight, displaying remarkable creativity and originality in every design.
