The Rotary Club
Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. Rotary members believe that a shared responsibility is necessary in order to lead on our world’s most persistent issues. There are 46,000+ clubs working together to:
- Promote peace
- Fight disease
- Provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
- Save mothers and children
- Support education
- Grow local economies
- Protect the environment
Annually, Townlands children in year 4, 5 and 6 participate in the National Young Writer Competition, which is organised through Leicester De Montfort Rotary Club. This is a well-established and successful competition promoted by Rotary International in Britain and Ireland (Rotaty GB&I).
This competition aims to encourage young people to:
- use their writing skills
- write with imagination and creativity
During this process, we also encourage children to learn about the work of The Rotary Club.
The Young Writer competition is one of a number of competitions for young people organised by Rotary International and in the past our children have also successfully entered the Young Photographer competition.
