Developing children’s understanding of other faiths.
Throughout their time at Townlands, our children visit a variety of places of worship in multi-cultural Leicester, which is in contrast to the demographics of Earl Shilton. Through these opportunities, pupils learn to understand, respect and celebrate difference and diversity. To demonstrate our understanding of how communities live together side by side, each class designed and made a representation of a place of worship. This was then assembled to create our Plural Village. The resulting display is used to support our teaching of faith, diversity and tolerance during collective worship.
To develop tolerance and an understanding of worship within our local community, parents were asked to help their child to create places of worship, as a 3D model. We were overwhelmed with the response. The amazing models are on display throughout the school and in our reflection area, as a reminder of how communities can live side by side in mutual respect.
