Mental Health & Wellbeing
Mental health is a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community. (World Health Organization)
At Townlands C of E Primary Academy our vision ‘A journey of learning in the light of God’s love’, is at the heart of our approach to mental health and wellbeing and is an integral part of how we approach teaching and learning. Our school Christian values are Faith, Love, Respect, Friendship, Honesty, Hope and Forgiveness. These values shape all we do and enable Townlands Primary Academy to be committed in supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff. Our school recognises that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times, anyone may need additional emotional support. As a collective school family, we each have a role to play in nurturing positive mental health for all.

NHS Education Mental Health Practitioner
My name is Becky Ward, and I am the Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) at Townlands school.
I am usually based in school one day per week.
My role is to offer low intensity Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) to children and young people and/or their parents/carers for a period of 6-8 weeks through 1-1 or group work sessions. This support is offered via referral only through the school and for children that are experiencing symptoms of mild anxiety or low mood. As part of the MHST service I also support the school with their whole school approach to mental health initiatives.

This can be shared with children too.

As part of our 'Dress to Express' Mental Health week, the children were invited to enter a drawing competition showing positive mental health including; friendship, relationships and connection with others. Lots of children across the school spent time creating beautiful artwork. Thank you to all who entered the competition. Our lucky winners will have their artwork used in the development of the schools wellbeing provision and resources.
