Examples of Learning
At Townlands, PSHE and RSE are taught in a variety of engaging and meaningful ways. We pride ourselves on delivering a high-quality curriculum that supports children’s personal, social, and emotional development. Alongside this, we take pride as a whole school in celebrating special events such as Remembrance Day, Anti-Bullying Week, and other key occasions that bring our community together.
Learning through talk
We pride ourselves on delivering a high quality PSHE and RSE curriculum. We believe that it is crucial to provide children with opportunities for exploratory talk during their learning. This involves thinking aloud, questioning, discussing, and collaboratively building ideas.
Learning to talk
To become happy and healthy members of the community, we believe that children need to develop their oracy skills. This is essential in teaching children how to express themselves across a variety of settings like public speaking, debates and interviews, but also in personal settings, where children learn essential social skills including turn taking, eye contact and using their manners.

Through our RSE and PSHE curriculum, we strive to teach children to:
Ask questions to each other.
Respond to questions.
Contributing to discussions.
Collaborate on tasks in pairs or in a group.
Expressing opinions in a respectful and thoughtful manner.
Using appropriate vocabulary when speaking.
Developing the ability to empathise and sympathise with others.
Use manners consistently and appropriately.
Use appropriate body language in different situations.

Examples of learning
Our PSHE and RSE curriculum follows the Kapow scheme of work. Lessons are designed to incorporate opportunities for discussion, key learning is recorded and displayed in the classroom for children to revisit and reflect on throughout the term. Working wall displays are consistent throughout the school as a jigsaw piece.
Whole school displays
As a school, we recognise and pay respect to significant events throughout the school year. This provides us with opportunities to learn, reflect and pay respect to these events.
